About Us
Who We Are
We are a group of Sunnyvale residents and a local chapter of the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC). We are united by our love for biking, camaraderie, and our shared mission and vision.
Our Mission
Our purpose is to create a healthy community, environment, and economy through bicycling for people who live, work, or play in Sunnyvale.
Our Vision
We envision a community that values, includes, and encourages bicycling for all purposes for all people. View more info about SVBC's vision and goals here.
What is bicycle advocacy?
Our bicycle advocacy boils down to 3 main categories.
The city is constantly redesigning its streets. When these projects happen, we push elected officials (usually city council) to select the design that is safest for biking. We also push for more funding for bicycle projects and bicycle-friendly city policy changes. We do all of this by:
Meeting & Riding with elected officials
Speaking at City Council meetings
Organizing email writing campaigns to the city council
Getting more people biking
We encourage more people to ride their bikes through:
Free Bike Repair & Tube Repair Events
Rides
Bike to Work Day (usually late May)
Social Gathering
Outreach
Tabling to recruit more members
Encouraging businesses to install bike racks with the city's Free Bike Rack Installation Program
